Tell us about what your ordinary day looks like.
I get up and feed my 2 cats, Nico and Max, because that must happen precisely at 9:00AM or I will never hear the end of it! Once I'm up and about, I am usually putting a puzzle together OR filming a video for my YouTube channel, Persnickety Puzzler. I am also constantly on the lookout for new jigsaw puzzle brands that I can feature on my channel.
How did you get into the world of puzzling?
I started puzzling many, many years ago when I was around 9 or 10 years old. I was home sick from school and my mother bought me a Springbok puzzle to put together. I was instantly hooked!! After that my parents would buy me puzzles every holiday as gifts or whenever they wanted to reward me for something. Once I was old enough to work, I would buy puzzles with my own money at the Hallmark store that was right next door to the place that I worked. And my collection of puzzles slowly grew.
What makes you keep puzzling & how often do you puzzle?
I puzzle every day, for several hours a day. Puzzling really appeals to my desire for structure, and it also calms my mind. Once I start a puzzle, I cannot wait to finish it and start the next one. It's a wonderful feeling putting in the last piece of a puzzle.
What is your favorite type of puzzles?
The majority of the puzzles I put together are 1000-pieces. I do have some 500-piece puzzles, but for me they are over too quickly so I like higher piece counts. I love more modern images as opposed to the more traditional artwork. I love pop art style, and I also adore mid-century modern style artwork. Cartoon-style puzzles are also a favorite of mine. As far as puzzle cuts go, I really like grid cut puzzles, but my true love is random cut puzzles with crazy shapes. They are so much fun to put together.
During puzzling sessions, do you listen to anything or puzzle in silence?
I typically listen to true crime TV shows like Dateline or 48 Hours. I also listen to true crime podcasts as well.
If you were to describe what puzzling means to you, what would it be?
My absolute favorite hobby and passion.
Tell us about your other interests & joys.
I really enjoy playing video games like Legends of Zelda and Pikmin 4. My husband and I also collect pinball machines and we enjoy attending arcade conventions in our spare time. We also enjoy going to concerts of our favorite bands, and just recently we saw both the Eagles and Foreigner.
Do you have anything you want to share?
The Persnickety Puzzler YouTube channel is relatively new, and it would be wonderful if others would check it out and help it grow.
