Tell us about what your ordinary day looks like.
When I’m not helping people get home loans at work, I’m cozying up on the couch with my husband, dog, and of course a puzzle! Winters in Alaska are too cold for me so indoors with a puzzle is where I like to be.
How did you get into the world of puzzling?
Two things about me; I’m incredibly competitive and an avid board gamer as well. In the summer of 2024 my husband found me my first wooden puzzle while on a trip, and thought it would keep me occupied while he was away at work and we couldn’t play board games. It was so much fun I searched for more puzzles and stumbled upon Karen’s Puzzles YouTube Channel and was introduced to speed puzzling, and collecting puzzles.
What makes you keep puzzling & how often do you puzzle?
I puzzle almost every day, at least for a few hours, and most of the weekend including a puzzle meet up with friends almost every week! I keep coming back to puzzling as a way to get me off of technology, and to reduce my anxiety/stress. I get such a rush of dopamine from completing a puzzle, and the act of putting the image together is incredibly soothing for my brain; with one clear solution, puzzling is the opposite of my incredibly fluid workday.
What is your favorite type of puzzle?
I love a variety of puzzle types, but a good grid cut will almost never steer you wrong! Wooden puzzles will always hold a special place in my heart.
During puzzling sessions, do you listen to anything or puzzle in silence?
While casual puzzling I typically watch tv with my husband, and while speed puzzling I listen to a very specialty curated playlist of upbeat, face paced country music to keep the momentum going.
If you were to describe what puzzling means to you, what would it be?
Cathartic

When I’m not puzzling I play board games, video games, and traveling to new hiking spots with my dog.
