Tell us about what your ordinary day looks like.
I work from home, and as soon as I am done for the day I like to make some tea and choose a quiet activity. I'm a creature of habit and typically alternate between reading and puzzling on work nights, but will sprinkle in walks or bike rides during the week. On the weekends I try to venture out to local restaurants, catch a show, or stop by my favorite boba spot before going to look at comics and Pokemon.

How did you get into the world of puzzling?
Technically, my gateway to puzzling was Tori Amos. The children's book she wrote was illustrated by Demelsa Haughton, and I had a lightbulb moment when I found out about the illustrator's puzzles. Around that time, The Herb Shop was a puzzle I saw on my instagram feed that I absolutely loved but didn't take note of, and these two things piqued my interest and led me down the rabbit hole of the puzzling world later. I didn't realize how many small puzzling brands work with real, talented artists and create really high quality puzzles and boxes you can display. I also appreciate brands that care about environmental impact, such as having a no plastic policy like Soonness.

What makes you keep puzzling & how often do you puzzle?
I typically puzzle every other day, depending on stress levels. Puzzling feels meditative to me, and really effectively calms and quiets my mind. It is also lovely to experience art in such an interactive way. It feels like you are opening a door into the scene as you assemble it. My taste in art has really expanded since I began puzzling, and it's made me more interested in other cultures. There are so many amazing puzzles created around the world and I love learning about different art styles, places and traditions.

What is your favorite type of puzzle?
I love 1,000 piece puzzles, but I'm always especially excited for 500s. The quicker assembly time gives an extra little boost of confidence upon completion, and allows me time to complete even more puzzles! I love a matte finish the most, and enjoy random cut or standard grid cuts depending on my mood. I'm typically most drawn to puzzles that are magical, pastel, have cats and books or are generally whimsical and soothing.

During puzzling sessions, do you listen to anything or puzzle in silence?
I typically prefer silence so I can really be immersed in the puzzle I'm assembling. I will play music sometimes that won't distract me from that experience, like mellow indie, classical or nature playlists.

If you were to describe what puzzling means to you, what would it be?
Escapism.

Tell us about your other interests & joys.
I'm always juggling at least a few books at a time. I've also been exploring more crafts beyond my typical embroidery and bookmarks. I'm currently into diamond art painting, cross-stitching, and I'm about to make a hooked rug for my kitchen. I try to get down to the local shelter when I can to walk dogs or spend time with the cats. I will also never turn down a spooky movie! I love the little adrenaline rush, and it really improves perspective to recognize that while things might be hard, at least you (probably) aren't being chased with a chainsaw.

Do you have anything you want to share?
The puzzling community is so welcoming and wholesome, and I love how it celebrates art. I love that this online environment is so positive and connects people from all over the world.
