What's your name?
Yashi

Where are you based?
Melbourne, Australia

Tell us about what your ordinary day looks like.
I’m a mom of a teenage girl. I’ve been working in the steel industry for 15 years. This day job can be a bit hectic and puzzling helps me destress. I also have a side hustle that I started 2 years ago where I clean leather bags/shoes and do some minor repairs.

How did you get into the world of puzzling?
Since I was little, I loved doing puzzles. Every Sunday me and my grandfather will solve a crossword puzzle in the newspaper. I really enjoy solving puzzles in newspapers and magazines, but when Covid happened, I got into jigsaw puzzles. Since Melbourne had the longest lockdown days in the world, I turned into jigsaw puzzles after clocking off work. This helped me clear my mind and not think about what else was happening around me.

What makes you keep puzzling & how often do you puzzle?
At first, when I finished a puzzle, I bought a new one right away. Then it turned into 2 or 3 at a time to save on postage. I didn’t realize how quickly I got addicted to buying puzzles. I have tried to speed puzzle to get through my stack but it just kept me more motivated in acquiring more LOL. I puzzle everyday, but taking it easy on most days as this is my way to relax and wind down from a very busy day in the office.

What is your favorite type of puzzles?
I generally do 1000 piece puzzles, and I enjoy a challenge with unique puzzle piece shapes like the SOONNESS puzzles recent cut.

During puzzling sessions, do you listen to anything or puzzle in silence?
Most of the time you’ll see me watching Friends on Netflix or often listening to podcasts/music while puzzling.

If you were to describe what puzzling means to you, what would it be?
Puzzling is a form of organizing colorful and beautifully cut chaos that turns into a piece of art.

Tell us about your other interests & joys.
My latest hobby that turned into a side hustle was doing a Bag Spa. I like cleaning, fixing and sometimes painting small leather goods. It adds value and extends the life of the bags when you care for them. It also encourages people to recycle, reuse and repurpose old leather bags and keep them away from landfill.

Do you have anything you want to share?
Practice makes perfect. Like doing puzzles, if you keep on practicing anything everyday, even if you think you’re already good at it, you’ll realize that you get better and better each day.
