Bizzles Puzzles
What's your name?
Diane Bizzle
Where are you from?
Arkansas, USA
When did you start puzzling?
I don't remember not puzzling. I've gone in phases where I did not puzzle for months or even years (when I was in high school and college). But it has always been an activity I turned to when life got overwhelming. The earliest puzzles I remember doing were Seasame Street tray puzzles. We had a couple Playskool ones that were wood and some cardboard ones from Golden. I also collected puzzles with Christian Riese Lassen art, but especially the circular ones. In March 2017, I decided to share my puzzles on Instagram. That evolved into changing my username (from diane1002 to bizzlespuzzles). Then I took my first trip the Puzzle Warehouse in July 2017. That was definitely when the hobby started to turn more into a passion. I was chatting with my friend David one summer night in 2018 and he suggested I record a time lapse of putting a puzzle together. Since then, I have recorded a time lapse of nearly every puzzle I have put together. I love going back and seeing the different approaches I take.
What is your favorite piece count and why?
I honestly cannot say I have a favorite piece count. For a while, I only did puzzles that were 1,000 pieces or more. But now my focus is on the art rather than the piece cut.
What is your favorite type of art?
This is the hardest question! I love art! I am most drawn toward the quirky and unusual - surrealism and abstract. I love art that makes me think. Sometimes I want to laugh or completely zone out. That's when I turn to cartoon illustrations and gradients. Then there is fine art. There is something so special about looking at the brush strokes and details of fine art puzzles.
What makes you keep puzzling and how often do you puzzle?
Puzzling is a way for me to turn my brain off, relax, zone out. It helps me manage my anxiety, depression, and OCD. It also gives me an excuse to binge on audiobooks. I tend to puzzle daily. It doesn't always happen but it is my go-to activity before going to bed.
What is your go to drink/snack when you puzzle?
When I puzzle, you'll often find me drinking sparkling water. And if I snack when I puzzle, it is almost always something sweet, usually gummies (the Skittles gummies are so good).
Tell us a little bit about your other joys.
I have so many joys in my life! I have to start with the obvious, my husband who fully supports my habit. He definitely teases me about how many puzzles I have (I don't think he ever really looks at the closet though). My stepdaughter is one of my favorite people. She is growing up so quickly and has become such a fun shopping partner. She is also creative, smart, and funny. I have 3 dogs who are such important parts of my life. They each have their own unique personalities. I can always count on their goofy antics to cheer me up. I honestly cannot imagine life without a dog. There is something so special about the unconditional love they show. They have often "helped" with puzzles. They are not good helpers. My other big passion is books. I listen to a huge array of genres but I tend to lean mostly toward historical fiction and mysteries. I love autobiographies as well. There is so much inspiration to be taken from other people. I just love learning.
